Every autumn, Norrland Legal’s commercial team reviews hundreds of supplier contracts before renewal season. In 2025, it took them eleven weeks. In 2026, it took four.
The firm had tried two AI tools before. “Both were fast,” says Ingrid Sjöberg, Head of Legal Operations. “Neither could tell me where an answer came from. In our work, an answer without a source is a liability.”
The old way: read everything, twice
A paralegal pulled each contract, a lawyer read it against the firm’s playbook, and a second lawyer checked the flagged clauses. The process was careful and slow, and it left the most experienced people doing the least interesting work.
“We didn’t need an AI that sounds sure. We needed one that shows us the clause.”
The new way: the AI reads, lawyers decide
Cairn now reads every contract against the playbook and produces a table of deviations, each linked to the exact clause. Anything it can’t verify is marked Needs review. Lawyers spend their time on those rows, and approve the rest in a single pass.
The firm runs Cairn Sovereign in Stockholm. No contract text leaves Sweden, and nothing is used for training.
